This page is about trying to help unwanted, badly treated or neglected bunnies learn to trust humans again & eventually find their forever home where they will never be used again.
So many are used purely for money making ventures & are not cared for properly.
Many buns become unwanted pets because they spray on their owners, nip, thump & are generally not the sort of animal you want as a family pet. There is a very simple answer to this: have them desexed. We all know what hormonal teenagers are like they thump & grunt as well. The difference between human teenagers & bunny teenagers is that the human ones grow out of this stage where bunnies don't. They boys do take a few weeks for all of the testosterone to diminish but they still change very quickly.
All livestock also deserve to be treated properly be it cows, sheep or bunnies.
I am not talking about legitimate breeders here, but the unscrupulous people who see bunnies as brainless creatures without personalities or feelings, who can be used to make money.
These bunnies are rarely, if ever taken to the vet let alone cuddled. They are not usually vaccinated & the parents are not checked to see that they are suitable to be bred from.
Some are amazing! You would expect that a bun who has been caged all of its life to breed babies for meat, or to have her babes sold on as pets would be withdrawn but they can amaze you, sometimes they seem to just crave the attention they have never had.
My intension is to not only have these buns desexed, vaccinated & used to being handled but also used to dogs being around & hopefully toilet trained, which usually occurs after desexing.
I will then seek out loving homes for these rehabilitated buns to go to. Our Adoption fee is $120 per bunny, which goes towards the cost of Desexing & vaccination. All of our bunnies are fully vaccinated & vet checked.
Ideally this would be inside but I am also a realist & know that sometimes the best home may not be able to have them inside all the time. I will help you with ideas to protect your bun.
My personal buns free range through the house with the exception of my sons bedroom.
They are toilet trained & are just like any other pet in the home. They run to the fridge when they hear it open & jump up for cuddles & pats.
It isn't that difficult to rabbit proof your home (i.e. hide the cords) if you have a chewer, not all buns are. Any questions please ask.
My aim is to take in unwanted bunnies, have them desexed, vaccinated, vet checked, used to being handled & having dogs near before finding a forever home
